You are the reason the GOP is in the minority...

(CNSNews.com) - Self-identified conservatives outnumber self-identified liberals in all 50 states of the union, according to the Gallup Poll.
 
At the same time, more Americans nationwide are saying this year that they are conservative than have made that claim in any of the last four years

In 2009, 40% percent of respondents in Gallup surveys that have interviewed more than 160,000 Americans have said that they are either “conservative” (31%) or “very conservative” (9%). That is the highest percentage in any year since 2004.

Only 21% have told Gallup they are liberal, including 16% who say they are “liberal” and 5% who say they are “very liberal.”

...so give your party a break, let us run a real conservative and win a few elections, ok?

The GOP Ignores it's Base and Loses Big

I wasn't the slightest bit despondent yesterday. For one thing, I'm a conservative, I don't rely on government for my happiness. For another, I was almost certain that McCain was going to lose. A victory would certainly have been a pleasant surprise, but I've been prepared for this moment for at least two years.

Here's what I wrote June 1, 2006.

Now, for the first time in over 20 years, I’m thinking of registering Independent. No longer can I console myself with “well, the Democrats are even worse”. Although in my view this is certainly true, it’s just not a good enough reason to put an “R” next to my name.

I need a party that understands it’s supporters and actually stands up for them. The way things stand now we have a choice between the Republicans slow boat to socialism and the Democrats' speed boat. Reagan had an excuse for not reducing government while in power, the Democrats controlled the House during both of his terms. Bush, on the other hand has the historic luxury of a totally Republican Congress. When big government grows under a Republican rule there are no excuses, just an enormous debt.

The article goes on to explain how the GOP has abandoned it's base on border security, and taken a politically correct attitude towards jihad.

So what’s a conservative to do?
The democrats will certainly be softer on terrorism and the border. I can’t register Libertarian, it’s a good idea taken too far. Legalizing prostitution and drug abuse don’t appeal to me, and the traditional isolationism of Libertarians is an idea that doesn’t work as the world continues to get smaller. Although I’d love to see the US pull out of the UN (for reasons I won’t get into here), an American drawback in the world would lead to the spread of global dictatorships.

I believe ‘06 and ‘08 could be disastrous for Republicans if they don’t wake up in time. Millions of disillusioned conservatives are going to stay home on election days. Perhaps in 2010 or 2012 the GOP will rebuild it’s base.

The Dems won by embracing their base. The GOP needs to  produce a candidate that excites conservatives as much as Obama energized the left. In other words, play hard or go home.

GOP Veepstakes

This is kinda fun for news junkies.

According to VoteMatch, my Veep would would be Fred Thompson, a 65% match.

Here are the runners up.

Tom Tancredo 63%, Condoleezza Rice 60%, and Sam Brownback 58%.

I like Tancredo, but not as a Veep for McCain. He would serve largely as a distraction on the border issue, hurting the GOP's chances. McCain is still mending ties with the right on that issue, and unless he's ready to build the fence in the first 100 days, he shouldn't pick Tancredo.

Rice would be a great pick, trumping Biden on foreign policy and reminding voters that Bush appointed more African-Americans than any other President in history. I like Fred as a Presidential candidate, but I think Rice is the best choice overall.

I don't know enough about Brownback to opine.

ON the other end of the scale, Rudy Guiliani scored the lowest at 40%.

I like Rudy, and I think he would make a good Veep, but this poll is based strictly on the issues.

Other low scores were Jeb Bush 45% and Joe Lieberman 48%.

Tony Snow RIP

Tony Snow, the former White House press secretary and conservative pundit who bedeviled the press corps and charmed millions as a FOX News television and radio host, died Saturday after a long bout with cancer. He was 53.

FP: What has made you make an anti-Sharia platform the central tenet of your campaign?

Kumar: The main focus of my campaign is the War on Terror. What so many politicians do not seem to realize is that our struggle is against more than just “terror.” Terrorism is simply a method, not an end itself. Terrorism is just one tactic being used by Islamic extremists in their effort to force their way of life on the rest of the world. Ultimately, then, this is a struggle over whether the nations of this world will be ruled under Sharia law or not. As Omar Ahmad, founder of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said: “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant.”

FP: What are your thoughts about CAIR?

Kumar: CAIR is a direct manifestation of Mohammed’s Sunna and jihad. CAIR is actually just one part of Islam’s strategy to annihilate the Western culture. It is far more dangerous than any Mohammed Atta or any other jihadists.

Lies and deceit are CAIR’s stock-in-trade. They claim to be akin to a “Muslim NAACP,” but everyone from the Department of Homeland Security, to FBI counterterrorism chiefs, to moderate American Muslims recognizes the extreme rhetoric that CAIR endorses. At least five of CAIR’s board members and employees have been linked to terrorism-related activities. They are fifth columnists, preying upon our values of tolerance and multiculturalism.

But CAIR is just one of an untold number of Islamic organizations in our government and university centers. People forget that Mohammed’s last words were to keep giving the money to kafir ambassadors and that is what Islam is doing in Washington, DC. Capitol Hill is awash in Saudi money and our dhimmi political types cannot get enough of it.

FP: What do you think it says about Islam that non-Muslims cannot enjoy the same freedoms in Muslim nations as Muslims enjoy in America and the West – and many countries around the world?

Kumar: This is proof of the legal inequalities that are built into Sharia law. Sharia is a set of laws designed to apply not just to Mulsims, but to non-Muslims as well. Everyone, believer and kafir alike, is supposed to live a life based upon Mohammed. However, kafirs – those who do not believe – are given distinctly different treatment than believers.

Tancredo to vote for McCain

Political Punch-Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., has reluctantly come to the conclusion that he will have to vote for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., whose immigration reform bill Tancredo blasted as amnesty.

"Sometimes I say to myself, 'Can I really do this?'" Tancredo said of voting for McCain, according to the Rocky Mountain News.  "And then you listen to Obama or Hillary and say, 'Yeah, I have to.'"

At a debate last October Tancredo sounded less sure of such an idea.

"You know, I've said I don't know how many times, that I am absolutely tired and sick and tired of being forced to go to the polls and say I'm going to make this choice between the lesser of two evils. I really don't intend to do that again. I am hoping, of course, that whoever we nominate will be the principled flag carrier for the Republican Party. But if that is not the case, no, then I will not support them."

Tancredo told the News he couldn't vote for Libertarian presidential candidate Bob Barr, who has similar views as he does on immigration, because Barr has "a blind spot on radical Islam."

There's also some disturbing endorsements for Barr from Pat Buchanan, another jihad apologist.
