Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh!
Translation: St. Patrick's Day blessing upon you!
Everyone knows Danny Boy and McNamera's Band, but there are a lot of great traditional bands out there that deserve your attention. So, in honor of the patron saint of Ireland, here's some videos of my favorite Irish bands.
The Tossers are from Chicago, but there's no mistaking the traditional influence in their songs.
I love The Pogues, and had the pleasure of seeing them live last year. The original name of the band was Pogue Mahone, which means "Kiss my A** in Irish, heh.
FM pushes the traditional sound to the limit with a fast tempo and electric guitar, good fun.
The Chieftains are the most famous Irish folk band and have preformed with numerous stars of every imaginable style. This video features some step dancers.
Rock star Sinead O'Connor sings beautifully in this rendition of the traditional classic.
The hard rockin' blue collar Murphy's from Boston play a funny song about rats breaking into a brewery, and finish up with Amazing Grace, complete with bagpipes.
A old traditional pub favorite with subtitles so there's no missing the hilarious lyrics.
Have fun, be safe.
