I told you so.
Romney's not my first choice among the candidates, but I but much prefer him to McCain or Huckabee. Here's what I said last week.
If Romney wins there (Michigan), that would give him 91 delegates ( correction, 42 delegates ) and that momentum should carry him to the finish. I believe Huckabee's faith in Iowa and McCain's independence in NH are isolated pockets of popularity. The only consistent candidate among the three primaries has been Romney. As Romney put it, "two silvers and a gold".
I think Romney's momentum will carry him in South Carolina as well. Romney and McCain were in a dead heat for Michigan polls as late as yesterday, But I think Republicans are starting to figure out that McCain and Huckabee are far to the left of most Republicans.
A quick google search right before heading to the polls might have a lot of casual voters uncovering Huckabee's economic record, or McCain's failed amnesty plan for illegal aliens. The GOP just is'nt that squishy.
Romney is the clear frontrunner now. He has money, the delegates and the momentum. He represents the middle of the GOP, with Thompson and Hunter to his right, and Huckabee, Guilliani, and McCain to his left. More importantly, Romney seems to be the only candidate who attracts a broad base.
