Russian Activist Held by State-Run Mental Health Ward

What could possibly go wrong if the government controlled every aspect of your health? Let's ask Larisa Arap...

A Russian opposition activist told Reuters on Tuesday from inside a psychiatric hospital that she was being held there against her will because she had blown the whistle on abuse in mental health care.    

Larisa Arap of the anti-Kremlin group United Civil Front and her colleagues say she is a victim of a local vendetta by healthcare workers after she gave an account to a newspaper alleging patients at another psychiatric unit in the same region were beaten and raped.

 

The full details of the case are not known, but Arap's detention has caused an outcry among Kremlin opponents who say it echoes the Soviet practice of confining political dissidents in mental institutions to keep them quiet.

Politics and health care, it's a perfect marriage.

 

Sounding exhausted but coherent, Arap spoke to Reuters on a mobile telephone from the psychiatric ward near the city of Murmansk, on the edge of the Arctic Circle, where she has been since July 5.

 

She said her problems began when she went to see a doctor to get a certificate testifying she was in sound mental health -- a standard requirement in Russia for renewing a driver's license.

 

"She (the doctor) called the police. They kept me by force, then an ambulance was called, they bundled me in there and brought me here where I was beaten," Arap said on the telephone she had borrowed from a visitor.

 

"I feel unwell but I am trying to hold out. But my strength is dying away," Arap said.

    Yelena Vasilyeva, a fellow opposition activist who has visited Arap in hospital, said doctors had forcibly injected Arap with drugs. Read more.

It used to be that the only people I knew who were concerned about the behavior of fellow mass-transit passengers were Israelis. But that was before Sept. 11, the airline "shoe bomber," the Madrid railway attacks and the 2005 suicide bombings in the London subway. Like it or not, the mantra "if you see something, say something" is simply part of the reality of life in the age of the war on Islamist terror. Indeed, it was exactly this sort of routine vigilance on the part of a young clerk at a Circuit City electronics outlet store this spring that led to the uncovering of a local Islamist plot to murder U.S. soldiers at Fort Dix, N.J. A gutsy move by the 73 year old Merrill, who seems to be anticipating a violent reprisal. The atheist artist attacked the Bible in public, but the Koran is desecrated in secret. He may hate both religions equally, but he fears Islam. That's not a subtle difference. 

Charles Merrill, the artist who recently edited the Holy Bible with a black marker and pair of scissors, has lately burned a rare Islamic Holy Book, The Koran, valued at $60,000.00, in an undisclosed Chicago location. "The purpose of editing and burning Abrahamic Holy Books is to eliminate homophobic hate," Merrill stated. "Both ancient books are terrorist manuals."

He continues, "I inherited the rare Islamic book from my late wife, Evangeline Johnson Merrill. As the daughter of the founder of the international pharmaceutical giant, Johnson and Johnson, Inc., doors of kings and queens opened to her around the world. Evangeline was given the rare manuscript by the late King of Jordan when she was on a mission for the United Nations in the 1950's."

JW reports that the Iranians think that Harry Potter is a Zionist mind control device.

In an article, the Iranian daily Kayhan, which is identified with Iranian Supreme Leader 'Ali Khamenei, criticized Iran's Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry for approving the distribution of the new book in the "Harry Potter" series.

The paper said that "Harry Potter" was a Zionist project in which billions of dollars had been invested in order to disrupt the minds of young people.

Yep. That's how you conquer the world folks, through a children's fantasy novel series. It's a good thing Amadinejad hadn't thought of it.

CAIR Attacks John Doe

CAIR plans to continuing it's attempt to protect terrorists and potential terrorists by suing John Doe's. Hooper tries to play the race card, despite the fact that Islam is a religion, not a race, and likens informers to "Grand Dragons of the Klu Klux Klan". I wish Tucker had said that the KKK are terrorists, and that is what we're trying to stop, terrorism. Hooper wants jihad, by violence or by lawsuit, that much is clear.

John Doe Amendment is Saved!

Chalk one up for common sense and Homeland defense!

The Center for Security Policy is gratified that its efforts, those of innumerable bloggers, radio talk show hosts and other public-minded citizens translated into an important legislative victory late last night.  Thanks to the leadership of Sens. Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins, the chairman and ranking minority member, respectively, of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and especially that of Rep. Pete King, Sen. Collins' counterpart on the House Homeland Security Committee, legislation along the lines of that adopted by an overwhelming bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives last May at Rep. King's initiative will shortly become law.

The language will provide protection against the sorts of harassment lawsuits filed by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) after several unidentified individuals reported six Muslim imams engaged in suspicious – and frightening – behavior prior to boarding a USAir flight in November 2006.  CAIR has been identified as a front organization for the Muslim Brotherhood and is an un-indicted co-conspirator in an alleged terrorism-financing plot.

Airport security officers around the nation have been alerted by federal officials to look out for terrorists practicing to carry explosive components onto aircraft, based on four curious seizures at airports since last September.

The unclassified alert was distributed on July 20 by the Transportation Security Administration to federal air marshals, its own transportation security officers and other law enforcement agencies.

The four seizures were described this way:

• San Diego, July 7. A U.S. person — either a citizen or a foreigner legally here — checked baggage containing two ice packs covered in duct tape. The ice packs had clay inside them rather than the normal blue gel.

• Milwaukee, June 4. A U.S. person's carryon baggage contained wire coil wrapped around a possible initiator, an electrical switch, batteries, three tubes and two blocks of cheese. The bulletin said block cheese has a consistency similar to some explosives.

• Houston, Nov. 8, 2006. A U.S. person's checked baggage contained a plastic bag with a 9-volt battery, wires, a block of brown clay-like minerals and pipes.

• Baltimore, Sept. 16, 2006. A couple's checked baggage contained a plastic bag with a block of processed cheese taped to another plastic bag holding a cellular phone charger.

Most Americans Worried About Jihad

But not as many as you might think. Emphasis mine.

FPM: A new Newsweek Poll on American attitudes toward Muslims and Islam has found that 46 percent of Americans believe that the United States is taking in too many Muslim immigrants. 32 percent think that Muslims in America are less loyal to the United States than they are to Islam. 28 percent believe that the Qur’an condones violence, and 41 percent hold that Islamic culture “glorifies suicide.” 54 percent are either “somewhat worried” or “very worried” about Islamic jihadists in this country, and 52 percent support FBI surveillance of mosques, with the same percentage rejecting the claim of American Muslim advocacy groups that Muslims are being singled out by investigators and police.

That means 46% aren't worried about jihad, and 72% think the Koran doesn't condone violence. The dhimmified MSM is mostly to blame for this, along with our government. Imagine how those numbers would shift if our President started quoting the Koran? How would CAIR and the Religion of Peace hold up their taqiyya if the Verse of the Sword (9:5) and the other 163 verses of violent jihad were common knowledge?

I blame Bush for not cutting to the heart of the issue and parroting raw lies about a "tiny minority of extremists" as sudden jihad syndrome pops up not just in America but all over the globe.

There is no way that only 28% would accept jihad as violent if TV viewers were given a dose of...

...to explain 9/11, 7/7, Madrid, the Kobar Towers, the USS Cole, Darfur, beheadings, FGM, stonings, honor killings and countless other atrocities instead of the aforementioned sugar-coated PC drivel.

But Muslim groups, along with the Democrats, have softened the image of jihad so much that only about half of America is cognizant that an enemy exists, in fact, we go out of our way to please them.

We have a long way to go folks, and a lot more dead infidels are apparently needed to prove our point.
