Why would anyone enter this country legally?
This latest amnesty bill is yet another slap in the face of the overwhelming majority of Americans who oppose illegal immigration. Like Sen Graham said a few weeks ago, it's time for the voting populace to "shut up" and obey. The pols are going to do what they want and there's nothing you can do about it. Republicans and Democrats agree, The border has to be wide open even in wartime. Even after 9/11, the Ft Dix plot or presumably any terrorist act. The import of terrorists into the United States is apparently offset by cheap labor in the minds of our leaders.
There is some hope, Tom Tancredo has been a vocal proponent for a secure border.
Mitt Romney said,
"I strongly oppose today's bill going through the Senate. It is the wrong approach. Any legislation that allows illegal immigrants to stay in the country indefinitely, as the new 'Z-Visa' does, is a form of amnesty. That is unfair to the millions of people who have applied to legally immigrate to the U.S.
"Today's Senate agreement falls short of the actions needed to both solve our country's illegal immigration problem and also strengthen our legal immigration system. Border security and a reliable employment verification system must be our first priority."
"But the little we do know about the bill is troubling. According to reports, the bill contains a new 'Z Visa' that allows those who entered our country illegally to stay here permanently without ever returning home. This rewards people who broke the law with permanent legal status, and puts them ahead of millions of law-abiding immigrants waiting to come to America. I don't care how you try to spin it, this is amnesty.
Giullani was less forceful,
First, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani...issued through his Communications Director, Katie Levinson:
"Rudy's top priority and main objective is to ensure our borders are secure and to stop potential terrorists and criminals from coming in. The recent Fort Dix plot is a stark reminder that the threat of terrorism has made immigration an important matter of national security. We need to know who is coming in and who is going out of this country if we are going to deal with those who are here illegally."
Fred Thompson says, "Scrap This Bill"
CAII Has some of the details;
The plan includes the following provisions:
1. It provides amnesty for illegal aliens who came to this country prior to January 1, 2007 (How exactly you are to prove when an illegal came here is beyond me.), who have paid taxes, and do not have a criminal record.
2. It creates a new “Z” visa which will be issued to the previouosly mentioned group of illegal aliens that would allow them to stay and work in the U.S.
3. The head of the illegal alien household will be given 8 years to return to their country of origin and pay a fine of $5,000 to achieve U.S. citizenship.
4. Illegal aliens with “Z” visas not wanting citizenship will be able to renew their “Z” visa indifinetely allowing them to stay and work in the U.S.
5. A new guest worker visa will be created that allows a foreign worker to come to the U.S. and work for two years. It can then be renewed up to 3 times.
6. It decreases the length of the border fence called for in previously passed legislation from 750 miles to 370.
7. It calls for the hiring of 18,000 new border patrol agents (who we assume are being hired to replace the agents the federal government has been throwing in jail for protecting the U.S. from drug smugglers and other criminals).
If any open border candidate asks you for a donation, be sure to send him/her one of these;
