That is the premise put forth by NRO's Dinesh D'Souza, and it may be tempting for many conservatives to follow this logic. The Muslim world is more religious than us...the left are the least religious among us...therefore, it's the left they hate.
After all, the left has heaped upon us abortion, and the sexual revolution, and gay rights all just in the past few decades. No wonder they hate us...but is this really about bikini's and racy TV shows?
D'Souza has unwittingly exposed the absurdity of the right/left argument in his approach to Islam. Both right and left co-exist under the umbrella of democracy precisely because of the freedom granted to us by God. The Framers of the Constitution believed that freedom was the right of every man, because that freedom came from a higher source, not from a man made government.
This creates a disastrous problem for Islam in a democratic country because to be a Muslim is to be a "slave to Allah". Islam means submission.
Freedom is not granted to Muslims through faith or government. Therefore, Muslims must allow themselves to be subjected to "slavery" in this world. The dissent, or Parliamentary-style of public argument as a means of reaching a census to represent the people, is toxic to a religion that loathes the plurality of modern government.
This why democracy has never truly caught on in Muslim nations. That is why there are no churches or Synagogues in Saudi Arabia.
Even if America and it's allies passed sharia-like laws to please radical Islam, would be disastrous.
Seeking to appease the muhajideen by the lengthening of skirts or some other such nonsense will only encourage them to increase the pressure of jihad, because the only solution acceptable is sharia, and past successes only prove that terror pays.
Therefore, freedom-loving infidels of the both sides, all faiths, atheists, agnostics, and all manner of kuffar need to band together before we lose our God-given right to democratic freedom.
In the fight against jihad, we shouldn't be tempted to turn our backs on the left, Israel, gays, or any group simply to make friendly with Islam. Not just because it's unAmerican (although that's reason enough), but because it just won't work against a faith that calls for a global Caliphate.
Nancy Pelosi may be the antithesis of what we think America is all about, but the Great Debate across the aisles of Congress are still decided by a vote of the people, and that is worth fighting for.
