SkyNews A ninth suspect has been arrested by police investigating an alleged Iraq-style kidnapping and beheading plot in the UK.
It follows the detention of eight people at addresses in Birmingham early today.
Assistant Chief Constable David Shaw, of West Midlands Police, revealed the last suspect was stopped on a motorway near the city.
He said officers were carrying out a "very, very major investigation" that would take "days if not weeks" to complete.
It has been reported the alleged plotters intended to post a video of the hostage being tortured and killed on the internet.
The target was a British Muslim soldier in his twenties who is now under police protection.
The soldier, who has not been named, has served with UK forces in Afghanistan.
As the story unfolds, it looks like the kidnappers are British nationals of Pakistani orgin. Identifying with the Taliban rather than thier own countrymen, a Muslim soldier fighting in Afghanistan was viewed by these Islamic Brits as "traitors". There is precedence for this kind of revenge against British soldiers in Britain.
Breitbart: Birmingham is the hometown of Britain's first Muslim soldier to be killed in Afghanistan last year - a death that prompted militant Islamist websites to denounce Cpl. Jabron Hashmi, 24, as a traitor. One site - that of the British sect al-Ghurabaa - posted an image of the soldier surrounded by flames.
Last year, a London street vendor was sentenced to six years in prison in a plot to kill a decorated British soldier. Abu Baker Mansha was accused of targeting Cpl. Mark Byles, whose address and other materials, were found in Mansha's apartment.
Byles was awarded a military cross for bravery following an attack in which several Iraqi insurgents were killed - exploits covered by British newspapers. One of the articles with Byles' name was circled and found in Mansha's apartment.
This begs the question, how does the UK deal with a large segment of the population that feels no sense of nationality?
