First of all, I'm proud of how
Republicans have handled Tuesdays loss of Congress, bowing out
gracefully with class is something the Democrats need to relearn.
Perhaps the only good thing
about the Democrat's sweep is we won't
have to listen to their incessant whining and paranoid fantasies.
No endless recounts in hopes of changing the outcome. No baseless accusations in an a crass effort to divert attention away from the fact that the people sized up the situation and decided they wanted to give the other party a chance.
The Dem's did a fine job of demonizing the War in Iraq at the expense of our troops, our national security and international reputation. Doing whatever it takes to win an election fares well at the polls, but the cost is prohibitive and may lead to an emboldened enemy as well as moralize the troops.
The Dems didn't run on their own merits, it was a Bush-bashing anti-war peacenik fest that even managed to conjure up the ghost of George Mc Govern. The same Mc Govern who warned us that Ronald Reagan's foriegn policy was going to lead to nuclear war with the old Soviet Union. The left hasn't changed the message, The enemy is benign and peaceful, the Republicans are the ones to fear.
After all, Bush stole the last two elections and started a war by tricking the hapless Dems into thinking Saddam had WMD's just so he could give the reconstruction contract to his pals at Haliburton. If you can get your base to believe that, why not take it a step further and suggest that Bush knew about 9/11 or even pulled it off himself using CIA agents and the like.
The hippie generation has gotten older, but refused to grow up, let alone become wiser. If America has to take one on the chin to ensure a Democrat majority, so be it. The Left and their cohorts in the media
may never allow another US victory as long as there are Republican presidents.
There's no doubt that al-Qaeda sees the changing of the guards as a victory for their side. The rhetoric has been stepped up a notch, including threats to destroy the White House and Saddam gloating about how he lived long enough to see Bush lose . But Saddam's last great act of defiance seems almost comical compared to the his own gallows fate.
But if Bush is still safe in an intact White House, with no US territory occupied by the enemy, and no major terrorist attacks in the US since 9/11, then how is it we're losing this war anyway? The Iraqi minister of Information, “Bagdad Bob's” ridiculous claims that Iraq was winning the war as US tanks rolled up the streets of Bagdad has been the conventional wisdom here at home. If we're losing this war, then why has Saddam been convicted of crimes against humanity and is currently awaiting the noose.
The claims of quagmire and comparisons to Vietnam aren't just wrongheaded in the strategic sense, enabling the enemy, it's just a flat out lie. We lost 50,000 troops in the ten year conflict in Vietnam, only to leave the enemy not only in power, but allowing them to all of South Vietnam. Even if Bush pulled out all the troops tommorow, Americans should be proud of removing the Bathists.
Why couldn't Bush get his message out, thus allowing for the radicalization of war rhetoric? Why did he abandon his own base on the border and federal spending?
Why aren't the Dem's celebrating the removal of the Taliban in Afghanistan and Saddam's maniacal butchery?
It's just doesn't make good political strategy. The GOP needs to learn how to reach it's base, doing an end 'round the MSM if nessisary.
