Here we go with the cartoons again. The "Beeb" says they haven't reached a decision yet, but if the interview is blocked, you can bet it has nothing to do with "editorial content" and everything to do with appeasement.
Kurt Westergaard claims the corporation's decision not to air a
recent interview with him came because they are petrified of upsetting
Westergaard was one of the 12 cartoonists commissioned by the
Danish Jyllands-Posten newspaper in 2005 to produce caricatures of the
Islamic tradition says no image of him should be produced or shown.
Kurt Westergaard said he was disappointed 'on behalf of freedom of speech' if the BBC did not show his interview
Muslims were particularly incensed by Westergaard's cartoon, which
portrayed Mohammed with a bomb in his turban and was seen as extending
the caricature of Muslims as terrorists. The images sparked protests
and outrage across the globe.
Mr Westergaard, 73, gave his first-ever English interview to BBC journalist Malcolm Brabant four weeks ago.
had been expected to go out on BBC World, the BBC News channel, across
radio services and on its website. But the corporation has kept the
report under wraps amid claims it is frightened that it will 'inflame'
Muslims around the world.
Mr Westergaard told the Daily Mail last night: 'I am
disappointed on behalf of the freedom of speech. Every time you are
afraid I think you make a step backwards. That is depressing me.'
He compared the BBC's behaviour with the way countries tried
to appease Hitler before the Second World War and added: 'If you have
an appeasement policy towards the radical Muslims then you are on a
very wrong way and you have to start marching backwards.'
A BBC spokesman said last night: 'No decision has been made
yet. As and when one is, it will be based, as always, on editorial

Geert Wilders, chairman of the Freedom Party in The Netherlands
(PVV), maker of the
film Fitna, and brave fighter for Western values,
will speak in Washington, DC, this week.
Wilders, the foremost defender of free speech in the modern age,
will deliver an address at a reception at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, site
of the Conservative Political Action Conference, on Friday, February
27, at 6:00PM.
The reception will feature a screening of Wilders’s courageous and
hard-hitting film Fitna, which demonstrates how Islamic jihadists use
the Qur’an and Islamic teachings to justify acts of violence and
terrorism, and which has become the focus of efforts by the
Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to restrict and
criminalize free speech about the global jihad threat. A
question-and-answer period will follow.
It is open to the public. In light of the multiple threats on Geert
Wilders’s life, security will be very tight: no bags or coats will be
allowed, all materials brought in to the room will be searched, and the
event organizers reserve the right to deny entry to or eject anyone at

Bill Bennett said on his show this morning that he'll have Geert Wilders as a guest tomorrow. I will update if I find out about other interviews.
"You're being chewed up and spat out, is what's happening to you people. Look at what you're doing: you're prosecuting a man who is under twenty-four hour protection from attack by violent Muslim, yet he's the criminal for expressing an opinion. Lewis Carroll couldn't have written this one any better."
The Dutch government is attempting to silence Wilders in retaliation for the movie Fitna.
This Wednesday the Dutch Court of Appeals in Amsterdam ordered
a criminal prosecution of Wilders on charges of “incitement and hatred
and discrimination.” His specific crime: statements that he has made
about “Muslims and their belief.” Citing Wilders’s comparisons of Islam
with Nazism, the Court of Appeals claims that criminal prosecution is
the “obvious” response to this allegedly intolerable insult.
WHEREAS Geert Wilders has exercised his fundamental human right of
freedom of expression and spoken out, with facts and evidence, of the
threat posed by radical Islam;
WHEREAS certain elements within Islamic communities have threatened
a boycott of Dutch goods if Geert Wilders is not punished by the Dutch
government for exercising his freedom of expression; and
WHEREAS certain elements in Dutch industry and the Dutch government
are suggesting that Geert Wilders be prosecuted civilly or criminally,
in order to prevent such a boycott;
IT IS RESOLVED that, in the event that the Dutch government
attempts, in any way, to punish or prosecute Geert Wilders, civilly or
criminally, for exercising his freedom of expression, the undersigned
will initiate a boycott of any and all Dutch goods. Sign here.

a UK blog dedicated to promoting the ideals of freedom and democracy,
is being sued by Mohammed Sawalha, the President of the British Muslim
Initiative, which has been linked to Hamas and the Islamic Brotherhood,
both terrorist organizations. The blog reports that Mr. Sawalha, according to the BBC…
minded much of Hamas’ political and military strategy” and in London
“is alleged to have directed funds, both for Hamas’ armed wing, and for
spreading its missionary dawah”.
In their revelation of the impending lawsuit against them leveled by Mohammed Sawalha, they write:
Sawalha claims that we have “chosen a malevolent interpretation of a
meaningless word”. In fact, we did no more than translate a phrase
which appeared in an Al Jazeera report of Mr Sawalha’s speech. When Al
Jazeera changed that phrase from “Evil Jew” to “Jewish Lobby”, we
reported that fact, along with the statement that it had been a
Mr Sawalha has been the prime mover in a number of Hamas and Muslim Brotherhood associated projects. He is President of the British Muslim Initiative. He is the past President of the Muslim Association of Britain. He was the founder of IslamExpo, and is registered as the holder of the IslamExpo domain name. He is also a trustee of the Finsbury Park Mosque….
Sawalha says that the attribution of the phrase “Evil Jew” to him
implies that he is “anti-semitic and hateful”. Notably, he does not
take issue with our reporting of the revelation, made in a Panorama
documentary in 2006, that he is a senior activist in the clerical
fascist terrorist organisation, Hamas.
like Harry’s Place is going up against some pretty top-notch lawyers on
this one, and they’ve got guts, but as the post goes on to say:
If Mr Sawalha persists in attempting to silence us with this desperate legal suit, we will need your help.
We won’t be able to stand up to them alone.
This is why we’ve started this blogburst, to get the word out that we won’t let members of Hamas or any radical terrorist group censor us or any of our fellow bloggers.
